How to Coordinate Your Outfits with Your Brand Identity for Your Perth Branding Session

HELLO! If you’ve recently booked a branding photoshoot (or you’re just starting to plan one), then the question of what to wear is probably playing on repeat in your mind. You’re not alone! I’ve worked with so many amazing small business owners and creatives across Perth, and I can promise you this: choosing the right clothing for your branding session doesn’t have to be stressful.

In fact, when done with intention, your outfit can become one of the most powerful visual tools for communicating the heart of your brand. One client of mine absolutely nailed it – they came with a clear branding brief, wore outfits that matched their brand colours, and the results were stunning. Every photo seamlessly wove into their website, marketing materials, and social presence without feeling forced or overly styled.

Let’s take a gentle, thoughtful approach to planning your wardrobe so your photos feel not only elevated and professional, but unmistakably YOU.

Honouring Your Brand Starts with Looking Inward

I know how easy it is to scroll through Pinterest or Instagram and fall down the rabbit hole of inspiration overload. Sometimes you can loose the idea of who you are.

Here’s what I always share with them: the magic chemistry behind a great branding outfit isn’t trend or comparison. It’s alignment. Alignment with your personality, your visual identity, and the experience you offer your own clients.

Whether you’re a Perth creative, consultant, wellness practitioner, real estate agent, or artisan maker, your brand has its own DNA. The colours, textures, and silhouettes you choose should feel like an extension of you, not a costume or a direct copy of someone else.

3 Ways to Align Your Wardrobe with Your Brand

1. Dress in Your Brand Colours (But Don’t Force It)

If your brand already has an established colour palette, this is such a wonderful starting point. Wearing those colours in your session makes your images visually cohesive with your digital presence – your website, business cards, social media and beyond.

  • Choose 1 to 2 of your primary brand colours to include intentionally in your wardrobe
  • If your colours are bold, incorporate them in small ways (accessories, nail polish, accent layers) instead of head-to-toe, making neutrals your base colour
  • Stick to tones that genuinely suit your skin tone and personality – you’ll find that these really enhance your features

That client I mentioned earlier? They looked incredible and completely at ease because the shades they wore were both right for their branding materials and colours that naturally lit them up. That’s the sweet spot!

2. Start With the Clothes You Already Love

Here’s something clients are often surprised to hear me say: your don’t have to shop for something new, start with your favourite wardrobe staples. The clothes you already own and feel good in are a clue to your personal style and energy. If they are worn heavily, you now have a better idea of the fabric, cut and/or colour that you like when you head out to the shops.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I get the most compliments on?
  • Which colours make my eyes sparkle or my skin glow?
  • What do I naturally reach for when I want to feel calm, capable, and like myself?

We often default to black or navy because they feel safe, but they aren’t always your best brand expression. If you get the most praise when you wear emerald green or soft blush, that tells us something. Your ideal clients are responding to the energy you emit in those colours.

3. Think in Scenes, Not Just Outfits

It can be helpful to approach your wardrobe choices in terms of “mini stories.” If you’re a coach, you might want one look that feels conversational and relaxed (hello, jeans and linen shirt), and another that’s more polished and corporate (tailored blazer or sleek jumpsuit). This gives you content variety while still feeling consistent.

  • Think about the different touch points your clients have with you – on discovery calls, at events, through packaging or social posts
  • Match your outfits to different aspects of your brand personality – from heart-centred and warm to strategic and savvy
  • Bring a variety of textures, layers, and accessories to play with during the shoot

Your session isn’t just about a pretty photo. It’s about telling your brand story with soul – and wardrobe plays a quiet but essential role in that storytelling.

It’s Not About Dressing Up, It’s About Showing Up

At the heart of it, what you wear in your branding photos should feel like your best version of “you.” Comfortable. Confident. Connected to your message. I love helping my branding clients in Perth create images that feel polished, but still honest – a reflection of their energy and business without any awkward pretense or pressure to perform.

Whether you arrive in flowing neutrals or bold textures, what matters most is that you feel genuine, warm, and ready to share your story.

Let’s Plan a Session That Feels Like You
