How nice to head back to the area where I grew up after being requested as a Kingsley lifestyle newborn photographer. I later found another connection when I shared this session on instagram. My old work colleague has known this dad since he was a little newborn himself!
It was the day after my birthday that I headed to this families home to shoot them as a new family. You can see in the images at the end of the gallery that this was quite a dark, gloomy day with a fair bit of rain. I mention this because I understand the stress of having a newborn and having your picture taken. Especially when it is in your home and you want the room to look presentable. I get it but I will never judge. I have four kids of my own that love to make a mess. But sometimes the room a client wants to use does not have the best light.
We can certainly embrace the shadows and shoot a moody session. However, I feel like a lot of people that come to me probably like the lighter images that I normally deliver. In this case we started in the living room which had very minimal natural light due to the rain. We started with some family shots which I was not overly inspired by. Once I needed to get solo baby shots I wanted a bed or somewhere soft to rest her. So we ended up in a guest room that had washing drying on a clothes horse. But it was perfect!! It had the best light shining through the windows of all the rooms in the house. So we finished off the photos where I felt comfortable producing beautiful images.
The reason I have spoken about this is to shed some light on in home sessions. Your home doesn’t have to be perfect. You have a newborn baby! All I had to do was move the washing to the other side of the room in this Kingsley lifestyle newborn photographer session. An easy solution and then the room was ready to go. The best thing to do is let me walk around to find the best pockets of light and we can sort out any issues from there 🙂
I offer three different style of Perth newborn photo sessions so click here to learn about which one may suit you.
